The ruins of Newmans Nursery, in Anstey Hill Recreation Park make for quite a fantastic photographic subject. However I went there more for the stories, the tales of a ghost child, possibly that of a little girl who died here in a tragic accident long ago.

Ghost in the Ruins
The Newman's Nursery Ruins at Anstey Hill Recreation Park are definitely worth the walk. I have been visiting the ruins for quite a number of years now - at first, just for the cool ruins, an old nursery built starting in the 1850's (original home) and then nearly destroyed by storms and flooding in 1913.
I started to return after hearing stories of 'ghost children' seen in the ruins by those venturing there at night. True or not it makes for a good story so I started to look into it more. It seemed many people believed that Newman's Nursery was a childrens nursery rather than a plant nursery so a lot of stories relating to 'dead children' made it around via word of mouth but you can find some online.
However we do know of at least one childs death at the nursery. In 1879 young Mary Newman, at only two or three years of age tripped and fell into a pot of boiling water as she ran into the kitchen to greet her father. She was the 14th out of 17 children the Newmans had.
Maybe people were just seeing one child ghost?
Anyways, there are other strange stories out there and ill go into those in the future.
