 Between 1827 and 1828 William Burke and William Hare murdered at least 16 people to provide fresh bodies to the local anatomy school.
Had they not gotten so cocky, it may have been quite lucrative, as each body fetched approximately £10, a large sum for those days.

 When a serial killer is caught, it is not unusual for the killer’s friends and family to be shocked, saying “He/she was such a normal person!” So what identifies a serial killer?
Can we figure out if someone is one, and perhaps stop them before they go on their killing spree?  Dennis Nilsen was arrested on 9 February 1983 after human remains blocked a drain in his home.
It wasn’t until he started talking that the ugly truth came out – at least 15 men had been butchered at the hands of this man during the late 1970s, early 1980s.  Karl Denke was a devout Christian, organ player at church, door to door salesman and helper of beggars and weary travellers...

Three unrelated stories of a strange, unusual or dark nature.  Her name was Locusta, and she is famous for being the very first serial killer.
She is credited with killing at least 8 people by poison, but the reality is that she was known in Rome as a ‘Professional Poisoner’, so the death toll would’ve been much, much greater.  A prostitute named Magdalena Solis had an entire village believing she was an Inca Goddess. All they had to do was hand over their money, and sleep with whoever she directed, for a reward.
But then she started sacrificing the 'unbelievers' and drinking their blood.  Fannie Bay Gaol was built to deal with the ways that prisoners were housed and dealt with in the Northern Territory.
The ghost stories began after the 1952 execution (from gallows built in the infirmary) of Jerry Coci and Jonus Novotny, who had murdered a taxi driver.  These killers got away with murder. The “Servant Girl Annihilator” raped, mutilated and killed back in the late 19th century. The “Zodiac” mainly focussed his rage on couples, shooting them or stabbing them to death in the 1960’s.
Neither were ever caught or punished for their crimes. |
