 Bloomingdale Asylum was built on land now occupied by Columbia University.
Originally it housed and treated anyone deemed 'insane' or 'lunatic', but later only took on those who could afford to pay... unfortunately money did not equate to good or humane treatment.

 Boggo Road Gaol (Brisbane Prison) lays the claim of being home to many ghosts - both former prisoners and a warden/guard.
With more than a few executions having taken place within its walls (at least one not going to plan) there is certainly a history of darkness and death.  The Fremantle Arts Centre is considered one of the most haunted locations in Western Australia.
Originally built as a psychiatric hospital - Fremantle Lunatic Asylum - it has seen much overcrowding, abuse and death. The activity currently experienced likely comes from that history.  There have been many reports of UFO sightings taking place around this quite unusual granite formation.
Over the years I have received several emails from people that seem to have shared a different type of experience, something they believe to be more ghostly in origin.  August 5, 1944, at least 1104 Japanese prisoners of war attempted to escape from a prisoner of war camp near Cowra, New South Wales, Australia, in the single largest and bloodiest breakout of World War II.
The war is long over but many believe ghosts remain from this event.  At around Christmas time 1900, on a remote island, three men - Thomas Marshall, James Ducat and Donald Macarthur - disappeared without a trace.
Local legends and superstition claim the island has a long history of being connected to the world of the supernatural.  With burial space running out, and cremation not an option, the people of Hallstatt, Austria, came up with a solution...
After being buried for a decade, bodies were exhumed and the bones bleached in the sun and moonlight, before being decorated and placed in the "Bone House".  For centuries, a number of aircraft, sea vessels and their crew are said to have disappeared without a trace, in an area off the coast of Florida.
Known as the "Devils Triangle" but more commonly as the "Bermuda Triangle", it is a location rife with danger and mystery.  Built in the 1850's, the LeBeau House has been the focus of many ghost stories.
With legends recounting tales of cruelty, tragedy, murder and the restless dead, this once magnificent building saw many visitors and thrill seekers, until it was destroyed by fire, in November 2013.  Built in 1725, as a hunting lodge for the then Irish Speaker of the House of Commons, many say this building was damned from the start.
It soon became a meeting house for the Irish Hell Fire Club, and it is believed that these men committed many depraved acts within its walls. |
